Lore in Genshin Impact references the Archon Wars beginning around two thousand years ago, resulting in the mass casualties of gods across Teyvat. In Old Mondstadt, combat occurred between Decarabian, God of Storms, and Andrius, King of the North Wind (a weekly Genshin Impact boss). A few thousand years ago seven seats opened in Celestia and the gods on Teyvat waged a long and bloody war to claim those seats. The conflict dragged on for a unknown period of time before finally ending two thousand years prior with the crowning of the Seven. Morax and Guizhong fought against gods valiantly, but Guizhong was ultimately slain, and her once-splendorous city was devastated. Morax led the survivors south of Mt. Tianheng and established a city that would eventually become Liyue harbor. The victorious gods became the seven Archons, and many of these Archons have been in power ever since. This means some of them were around during the events which lead to Khaenri'ahs downfall. The role the Archons of the seven nations played during the destruction of Khaenri'ah is unknown. The Art of Khemia played into the taboo of Alchemy: the creation of life. Gold unleashed her man-made monsters unto Teyvat in pursuit of power. Because of this, Celestia called forth the seven Archons to fight and destroy Khaenri'ah. Conclusion. As the Archon War drew to a close 2,000 years ago, only the Seven remained, giving Teyvat the seven nations we know of today. Only Barbatos and Morax remain from the original victors of the Archon War, while the other five nations' Archons have been replaced over the past 2,000 years. Because the gnostics of the 2nd and 3rd centuries regarded the material world as outright evil or as the product of error, Archons were viewed as maleficent forces. They numbered 7 or 12 and were identified with the seven planets of antiquity or with the signs of the zodiac.
