軍歌：出征兵士を送る歌 (Soldiers' Send-Off Song)

The Soldiers' Send-Off Song (Shusseiheishi wo Okuru Uta, literally "Song to send off warriors with as they go off to war") was written in composed in 1939 and was extremely popular, remaining so in the context up until this day. Reportedly, even today nationalist U-Yoku groups blare this song from loudspeakers at events and in the streets. The lyrics of the song are that of the cheering crowds of the nation praising and urging on the soldiers as they head off to the war in China and elsewhere. Consequently I find this song to be an extremely important product of the period. The lyrics are probably too jingoistic and nationalistic for some people's tastes, but it bears remembering that it was a product of its period, and that many Gunka songs went on after the war to influence a number of other media in other fields. As far as I am aware, despite its immense popularity, this is the first translation into English of this song. I have done my best. As usual, no political expression is meant by the recreation of what I consider to be a historical document. Please let me know what you think, and feel free to like and subscribe. Translation notes: Yes I am aware that 兵　(つわもの) could more accurately be translated as "warrior" however I chose to avoid a chorus in English along the lines of "Go forth, ye warrior men-folk of Japan". "One Hundred Million" was capitalised because it is a fixed term referring to the then 100 million subjects of the Japanese empire. Again, this is to the best of my understanding, the only translation into English ever of this song, however I doubt it will be the last. I have noticed from my previous videos that my translations eventually do end up making the rounds on other videos or elsewhere on the web. On the recording: Yes, although this is the recording that every other video uses for this song, it is undoubtedly the definitive and to my mind, best one. Usually however I do try to use something more original but in this case, there was little choice.
