Russian Exiles in Paris | Helen Rappaport

Helen Rappaport, bestselling author of "The Race to Save the Romanovs" and "The Romanov Sisters: The Lost Lives of the Daughters of Nicholas and Alexandra," discusses her latest research on the Russian émigré community in Paris. Watch as we explore the cultural milieu and influence of former aristocrats and members of the Russian diaspora as embodied in new roles and day-to-day life. Many of the Russian pre-revolutionary intelligentsia who were forced to abandon their homeland after the 1917 Revolution found work as taxi-cab drivers and seamstresses. Some hoped to return to Russia. Many never did. Learn more in this lecture by Helen Rappaport, author of "After the Romanovs: Russian Exiles in Paris from the Belle Époque Through Revolution and War," including the stories of Ballets Russes, Marc Chagall, Ernest Hemingway, Grand Duke Paul Romanov and Princess Olga Paley, Prince Felix Yusupov and Princess Irina Alexandrovna Romanov.
