This clip of one of Denise Van Outen's earliest television appearances comes from an episode of Splash Special called School for Stars, which you can watch in full here:    • Splash Special: School for Stars (198...   Splash was ITV's short-lived answer to Blue Peter, and the specials were a spin-off series of documentaries; this particular one went behind the scenes at Sylvia Young Theatre School and was first broadcast on Tuesday, 14th July, 1987. Denise was born in May 1974, likely making her 12 (possibly 13) when this was shot - so it all fits nicely. The programme makers were actually following the second girl to sing, one Jane Horn, who I gather ultimately focused on a career on the stage before working in a stage school herself. (Are you reading this, Jane? We'd love to hear an update from you!) And if you think you recognise the boy who sings but can't place him, that's Paul Parris - he played Matthew Pearson in Grange Hill around this time.
