Brother Bear and Sister Bear were getting along just fine until one day when they woke up on the wrong side of the bed and started going at it with each other. Then it goes into the main part of the story, which takes place in a real treehouse where a family of four bears lives. One morning, Brother Bear and his younger sister Sister Bear wake up when a mockingbird sings. Brother says good morning to Sister and she says it back. Usually Brother and Sister get along great. They take turns using the bathroom, have good manners at the table, sit together on the school bus, share toys, and respect each other. But one gray morning, Brother and Sister start arguing and it quickly turns into a big fight between them. It starts when Sister dangles her feet in front of Brother's face, annoying him. Sister gets her face close to Brother's with an annoyed look. Then Sister, feeling mad, races to the bathroom before Brother and when she gets there, she teases him and laughs at him through the bathroom door, making Brother really angry. When Sister takes too long in the bathroom, Brother angrily bangs on the door and yells at her to come out. Their dad Papa comes out and sternly tells Brother that's no way to talk to Sister, but Brother complains that Sister is taking forever in the bathroom on purpose to bother him. Then at breakfast they have bad manners. On the bus, they sit in different seats away from each other, upsetting their family (Sister sits in the front and Brother in the back). They take back toys they normally share - Sister messes up the dinosaur models Brother made for school, and Brother hides his toy planes and trucks. In their backyard treehouse, they draw a line dividing it into two sides, one for each of them. After Mama and Papa get fed up with their shouting, Mama whistles loudly to get them to be quiet and explains that everyone argues sometimes, but they probably forgot what started the fight. The next day, they make up, apologize, and erase the line dividing their treehouse until the next time they fight, anyway.
