Come and enjoy the wonderfully musical sounds of vintage London Transport 1937 AEC Regent / LPTB STL2377 (EGO 426) as we continue our long journey on traditional service 65 (Leatherhead-Kingston). The richness of musical gearbox notes is especially evident in 2nd and 3rd gears. The STL class was the predecessor of London's famous RT bus and this is a rare survivor. Its pre-select gearbox notes are very similar to the RT, although for the driver, the gear change lever is floor-mounted rather than steering column mounted as on RTs. The engine is the prewar AEC 7.7 unit, which contrasts to the more powerful 9.6 litre unit used in the RT family, but as you can see here, performance is remarkably good - and wholly rattle-free, unlike today's buses.
