Should you use the "Hollywood Peel" treatment? | Dr Davin Lim

For more awesome skin care tips go to https://drdavinlim.com/skin-care-tips/ Carbon laser peeling also known as the Hollywood peel or Spectra Peel can be used to treat acne, enlarged pores, pigmentation & fine wrinkles . . 🔬Skin Science: A carbon based chromophore is placed on the skin for 60-120 minutes before the procedure. In theory the carbon is concentrated in the oil gland - sebaceous gland. Laser, in the 1064nm wavelength is then applied to the area. Carbon particles are shattered, in turn (in theory) killing bacteria, & reducing sebum production. The second pass of the #spectralaser is very similar to the dermal toning settings; thus improving pigmentation, skin quality & fine lines . . 🙄Is it painful? No. Slight sting, that is about it. No numbing required . . 📆Is there downtime? No. Skin is not broken. Very slight redness in some patients. Make up can be worn after the laser . . 👉Are there any side effects? No, if performed correctly. #melasma patients should be on tyrosinase inhibitors, wavelength does not react with medications . . 👍🏻Does this ACTUALLY work? Yes & no. The carbon bit is controversial. I know it takes many hours before the carbon penetrates to the deeper layers. There are papers stating that the actual absorption into the oil gland is minimal. The flipside is that there are many scientific papers showing the efficacy of dermal toning, esp in the subcellular selective photothermolysis settings. My nurses & therapists use this particular setting to treat at least a dozen patients a day, so, if patient selection is performed correctly, it works... . . 🔫About the Spectra laser: it is made by @lutronic. It is reliable & simple to use. I have quite a few q-switch lasers, the most important aspect of q switching (apart from skill sets) is to have a laser that fires CONSISTENTLY (otherwise you will screw up your #melasma patients) . .
