DIR EN GREY - Vinushka [eng sub] LIVE HD

I mainly wanted to fix the subtitle timing, then I decided I might as well retranslate the song, and then I remembered ZuuuHaN had suggested a different performance than the one I had already used. I checked it out and was completely blown away and knew it was time I reupload Vinushka, one of my favorite songs. Taken from the DIR EN GREY x PIERROT Androgynos Live, 2nd Day -A View Of The Acro-. Check out the Tour18 Shinsekai performance if you like:    • DIR EN GREY - Vinushka [eng sub] LIVE HD   Translation by me. Annotations: I remember a blog post that I found really inspiring when I first translated the song, so I'm gonna link it here as well: https://ameblo.jp/xxxxasukaxxxx/entry... If you know Japanese I really recommend reading it, and if you don't take a look at the annotations of my April 2019 translation where I translated parts of it. The blog post starts off as follows: "Is what is generally considered bad really bad? Is what is generally considered not bad really not bad? I interpret this song as asking these questions in relation to the death penalty." In my April 2019 translation I explored this interpretation quite deeply and translated bits and pieces of the blog post I linked. This time I took a slightly different approach, but I still stand by my first translation (it's not much different from this one, however I did improve it in details so please take this as the current one) so feel free to check out the annotations of the April 2019 video if you're interested, I recommend it. "I just want to keep forgetting" - I struggled with whether I should keep this one as "I just want to stay oblivious", but I ended up deciding to this time translate the actual verb (to forget) into English that is used in Japanese. I still think both are valid. "Into the ant nest" - An ant "nest" is actually called a colony, however the original strongly gets across the image of a "nest", so I decided to keep it like that. "Inculcation of Dogra Magra" - "Dogra Magra" is a Japanese mystery novel from the 20th century. It has also been adapted into a movie. "I walk with this karma" - "Walk" as in "to go through life". "I kept watching how the moon shines on the Vajra" - The Vajra is Indra's weapon in buddhism and a symbol for the indestructible truth. As a ritual object it symbolizes the indestructibility of diamond and the irresistible force of thunderbolt. "I won't put you to sleep" - The nuance of saying "[...], so don't worry" is implied here. "If the age you want to be spoiled...is this evening" - "[If...] This evening" is a literal translation of the lyrics (小夜なら), but it's interesting to note that the part after the ellipsis is pronounced "sayonara" (making it sound like "Good bye"). "Thirteen stairs to the gallows" - Literally "Thirteen stairs to getting hanged", with "Thirteen stairs" already being used as a synonym for "gallows" in Japanese. It appears that you have to walk up exactly 13 stairs to the gallows after being sentenced to death at the time of execution in Japan. --------------- I do not own Dir En Grey or any of their music or performances. I translate for fun and wanted to share this translation. Thank you for watching!
