CAGED is NOT the Best System; It's the MOTHER of All Systems.

The debate about CAGED verses other ways of guitar fretboard organisation rages on across the internet, but is it possible that most people are missing the point? After 30 years of studying and teaching the guitar, I've come to the conclusion that CAGED is in fact the fundamental way that the guitar fretboard is organised, regardless of what fingering system(s) you prefer to use. Simply put, I used to think that it was the best of the systems, but now I'm convinced that CAGED is not really a system at all, but the framework upon which all the other systems are built off. In my opinion it is the only way to fly. This is just a brief discussion about the fundamental nature of CAGED and how it relates to how the guitar neck works.
