The most beautiful church in Iran

Vank Church is one of the biggest historical and religious attractions in Jolfa neighborhood and one of the sightseeing places of Isfahan. Vank Church was built by Armenian immigrants during the Safavid era of Shah Abbas; Of course, its initial form was different from the present building. At first, this church had only a religious function for Christians; But nowadays, the most attention is attracted to the historical dimension and cultural attraction of the church. Vank Church is the largest and most famous church in Iran and is also the Armenian Cathedral of Isfahan. This church is also known as "Amnaperkich" and is one of the 13 remaining churches in Jolfa neighborhood of Isfahan from the 17th century. Vank means monastery in Armenian language. Over time, in addition to maintaining its religious position among the people of Isfahan, especially the Armenians living in Jolfa neighborhood, Vank Church also became an administrative place and the center of social events. During the following years, the first printing house with a printing press in Iran and the Middle East was established in the courtyard of this church. One of the most important features of the Vank Church that attracts everyone's attention is the outstanding effect of the works of art in this church. Many works of great artists can be seen in the corners of Vanak Church. Elegant and magnificent architecture, beautiful statues, colorful carvings, paintings and historical paintings have added to the value of Vank Church. In the yard of Vank church, the bodies of some Armenian elders are also buried. Vank Church today has different parts and you should allocate enough time to visit this historical monument. This church was registered in the list of national monuments of Iran on the 15th of January 1310. In the continuation of this article, we will examine the history, architecture, artistic attractions and different parts of Vank Church. Jolfa neighborhood of Isfahan, where the Vank church is located, has long been the settlement of Armenian immigrants in Iran. During the Safavid period, Shah Abbas I ordered the retreat of the Iranians during the war with the Ottomans. During the return route, the Iranian army passed through Armenia. By the order of Shah Abbas, many parts of the route were destroyed to prevent the advance of the Ottomans, and in the meantime, the Armenian people were in danger of mass slaughter. For this reason, Shah Abbas decided to bring Armenians to Iran and settle them. At the end of this long journey, Shah Abbas and his troops arrived in Isfahan along with the Armenian people, and Shah Abbas donated lands in Jolfa region to the Armenians. The old form of Jolfa neighborhood had many differences with its present form. Over time, Armenians decided to build in this area and create various facilities, including religious buildings, to perform their religious relations. With the efforts of the Armenians living in Isfahan in Jolfa neighborhood, 24 churches were established by the end of the 17th century; While the number of churches in other parts of Isfahan reached 6 by that time; Unfortunately, only 13 churches from that era remain today. Vank Church dates back to 1606. At that time, only a small building was built in the southwestern part of the present building, which was known as Hakob (Jacob) Church. This small church was used by Christian clergy for 50 years and many priests and caliphs were trained in this church during this time. Hakub's church later became the cornerstone of Amna Perkić Church or Vank Church. There is a text engraved on the entrance of Vank Church that shows the history of Vank Church. The text of this inscription is as follows: Vank Amna Perkich and seat of the Armenian Archbishop in 1606 AD After 50 years, in 1655 AD, the residents of Jolfa, during the reign of Shah Abbas II, started the construction of the main building of the church, which is almost the same building today. The construction of the new Wank church took from 1655 to 1664, that is, nearly 10 years. Since 1905, the process of expanding the church area was started by Armenians and new buildings were built in the area. Vank Church Museum was also opened in 1905 and was both a museum and a library until 1930. With the passage of time, various parts of the Wank Church were completed and various parts such as the prayer hall, the church entrance tower and administrative buildings were created in this complex. At the head of the western entrance of Vank Church, there is an inscription made of azure colored tiles with gold lettering, on which the following text is engraved: Vank Amna Pargich Church was started in 1655 AD during the reign of Shah Abbas II and Jathliqi "Filipus" and the leader of Khalifa "David" and with the help of the good people of Jolfa and it was finished in 1664 AD. May the reward of worship performed in this church be given to those who are alive or have passed away. #vlogs
