14 - 18 Acura MDX 16 - 20 Honda Pilot 18 - 20 Odyssey 14 - 20 RLX 15 - 19 TLX These are the Acura and Honda vehicles powered by the 3.5L V6 engines with no power steering pumps (that is, replaced by a electric motor assist power steering system). The belt replacement procedure is different when compared with the hydraulic power steering system. This video will show you step-by-step on how to replace the timing belt, water pump, idler pulley and tensioner pulley performed on a 2016 Acura MDX. The procedure should be nearly identical with other Acura and Honda vehicles (list show below). The timing belt service interval is approximately 105,000 miles or 7/8 years...whichever comes first. With 100,000 miles on this MDX, either the belt was stretching or the belt tensioner was beginning to fail. Unless you have a powered impact tool used with 19 mm high mass impact socket, removing the harmonic balancer bolt is next to impossible. If you have no prior experience replacing a timing belt, expect to spend anywhere between 6 to 8 hours to complete the job. Replacement of the water pump will release coolant from the engine block. This would be a good time to change out the coolant from the radiator which would constitute a complete fluid exchange. Acura / Honda coolant, which is blue in color, will start turning green to indicate the coolant is beginning to wear out.
