Regular verbs in the past simple or past participle form as well as some adjectives end in -ed. The question now is, how do we pronounce this ending? Sometimes -ed endings are pronounced as an unvoiced consonant sound /t/, sometimes as the voiced consonant /d/ and at other times as /ɪd/ - a combination of the short vowel sound /i/ and the voiced consonant /d/. Yes indeed, there are three different ways! It is a common mistake to say /id/ for all -ed endings, when in reality many times -ed endings are simply pronounced with only one consonant sound: /t/ or /d/. This video will teach you exactly when each sound is correct for -ed endings. There is also a pronunciation practice to help you become more comfortable with the pronunciation - sometimes we have three consonants right next to one another. This can be difficult if you do not have consonant clusters in your own first language. At the end there is also a little test for you! ★★ ABOUT BILLIE ★★ Billie is a pronunciation coach and content creator based in Barcelona, Spain.
