In this video, Aaron Hilliard, vice president of the Kitsap Peninsula mycological Society, takes us on a walk into the woods in the spring to reveal the identity of many different woodland mushrooms that are growing In the wild right now. Spring is a time when the ground warms up and the rains fall and wakes up a lot of fungi. The fruiting bodies then sprout from the ground or from the wood revealing these mysterious and beautiful fruiting bodies. Aaron has been studying mycology for about 30 years and is also the creator of Mushroom Wonderland. Come along with him and his dog Gunner to explore what kind of wild mushrooms are growing this time of year. Some of the mushrooms were going to be looking at in this video are the funeral bell or Galerina marginata. Gyromitra esculenta, "The false morel." Deconica montana, aka Psilocybe montana, the actual type species of the original Psilocybe genus. A mildly hallucinogenic mushroom known as "laughing gyms," Gymnopilus luteofolius. The beautiful "meadow waxy cap" Cuphophilus pritensis. The Elfin saddle, Helvella vespertina. A couple of types of Entoloma / Nolanea. One of the natural morels "Morchella brunnea.
