Coming Home: Cultivating a Sense of Belonging | Asyraf Zulkipli | TEDxUniversitiBruneiDarussalam

For many of us, the question of whether or not we genuinely belong and where we belong rings true in our minds. Due to no small amount of factors that may potentially lower the value we see in ourselves, including but not limited to social comparisons, the guilt of past actions, and traumatic experiences, we may feel a profound sense of alienation and displacement as a result. This TEDx Talk focuses on how a sense of belonging is cultivated so as to allow people to see the true value in themselves. By looking at belongingness, we will uncover the necessary components to develop a sense of belonging; a place to come home to. Asyraf is an introverted English Studies student currently enrolled at Universiti Brunei Darussalam. Attuning himself to the core values of Kindness and Compassion has led him to a new perspective on life that he now shares through the power of words. Aside from baking, literature and philosophy, he also enjoys introspective adventures that allow him to slow down and reflect on the meaning of things around him. Asyraf is a young leader, having participated in programs such as the ASEAN Young Leaders Programme (AYLP) in 2022. He is also a recipient of the Top 100 Asia Young Talents for the 2022 MonStar Awards for his works online to inspire others to be more compassionate.
