In this video, I'll show you 4 drills to help you improve both the speed and power in your left hook If you're an orthodox boxer, the left hook is one of those punches that feels awkward and off balance and is hard to improve....... But that's normal. Everyone feels that way. But in this video, I'm going to give you 4 drills you can do on the heavy bag to improve your left hook So the first drill is an to throw the left hook, from the 'inside' while in a slipped position. Now before I go any further, I want you to keep in mind that when you're facing an opponent, either in sparring or a fight. You're going to be throwing your left hook from many positions and angles. Which is why, I believe in practicing your left hook in a variety of ways.. So the inside left hook from a slipped position is going to give you speed and power while on the inside of an opponent. The second drill is to throw left hooks from mid range. You can practice this one while standing stationary or while stepping in to it. Both are fine and will not only help you to improve the speed and power, it will help you get used to your own range. The third drill is to double hooks. This means throwing 2 left hooks consecutively and with speed and power. The main thing this one helps with is once, you've thrown the first hook. It's actually much harder to land the second one with speed and power because your balance is off and it's hard to regenerate that momentum. So this helps you to shorten and improve the speed of your left hook. And the final drill for improving your left hook is to throw it with follow through, this is where you "turn the ankle out" guys will shine lol. In this drill you're going to be turning the ankle over and actually pushing your weight from your left side to the right side and you're going to time a left hook in the middle of that. You just want to make sure that you actually get your weight behind it when you throw it and that you're not just turning your ankle over for the fun of it. And those are my 4 drills for improving your left hook with the heavy bag. If you're a peekaboo enthusiast. One thing, I also recommend doing, is a lot of willie bag work.
