In 1999 only 600 Grand Edition cars were built to commemorate the end of W140 production and were equipped with Premium Parchment leather, black Art Line wood trim, 18″ AMG Monoblock wheels, rear sunshades, illuminated door sills, and more. The 5.0-liter M119 V8 was rated at 315 horsepower with 347 lb-ft of torque when new. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 5-speed automatic transmission. The exterior is finished in Obsidian Black (197), including the factory color-matched lower body cladding. Grand Edition cars were fitted with 18×8.5″ AMG Monoblock wheels. The car is equipped with self-leveling rear suspension and speed-sensitive power steering. The Grand Edition included Premium Parchment Leather with black Art Line wood trim, a wood and leather-trimmed steering wheel, and floor mats carrying the Grand Edition logo.
