Kali Audio LP-8 vs. JBL LSR308 Sound Test Comparison Shootout!

Track 1: Tom Szy- Waiting For Springtime Track 2: Kid G- It's Too late Track 3: Tom Szy- Love Forsaken Track 4: Vesper Heights- Ten Years Out Track 5: Vesper Heights- The Garden Track 6: Tom Szy- What About Someone Like Me XY stereo pair of mics positioned at tweeter level between speakers at apex of equilateral listening triangle (where you would be positioned in room for listening/mixing). My studio has excellent acoustic dimensions, with floor and cieling gently sloping/non parallel and all walls and cieling covered with various acoustic 4-6” traps from GIK/real traps/DIY. Ceiling is covered with auralex 1” squares at varying angles. Both sets of monitors were calibrated and volume levels set on each pair of speakers speakers by playing back pink noise measured at 80db at recording poisition of xy microphone stereo pair, and measured with a VU meter. In some clips the LP8’s may sound louder, but they have a more pronounced midrange and our ears naturally hear mid range more prominently at lower volumes (google the Fletcher Munson Curve) and this may explain whey they sound louder. I did the best i could to match actual vs perceived volume. Regardless of all this, with a good pair of headphones/monitors you will be able to hear the different tonality/voicing of each pair of speakers- it was quite apparent to me on $20 koss headphones. Gear used: akg c451e stereo pair xy configuration into presonus studio 192 into logic x. Absolutely no eq/compression/effects have been applied to the audio in this video. Just raw audio recorded of the speakers playing back music in my studio. All of the test music material was played through on the LP8’s and recorded, then they were removed from the stands and the LSR308’s placed on the stands and the process repeated. The dimensions of the Kali’s/JbL’s are nearly identical, so the tweeters/woofers of each pair of speakers were nearly in the same spot. All of the AB comparisons and switching back and forth was done in logic with editing and volume matched as closely as possible. I recorded and mixed all the test material you are listening to in order to avoid copyright issues. So if you hate the way something sounds you can blame me! This was very informative to me, and although it took a lot of time, I learned a lot. Let’s fill up the comments section with what you hear and like/dislike. I’ll see you guys there!
