KRK Rokit 5 is an active studio monitor that, in comparison to Audioengine A5+, shows that studio monitors can be excellent alternative to HiFi speakers for music listetning. Not only pair of RP5s is around 25% cheaper than A5+, but it also sounds much better. Of course A5+ has functional and estethic advantage over KRK with better looks and convinience of remote control. Soundwise, KRK walks all over the Audioengine IMO, but the biggest difference is hidden in the mid ranges where KRK sounds much clearer, natural and detailed which is especially easy to hear when listening to vocals. Audioengine in comparison has maidrange that sounds a bit vailed, muffled and also introduces some honky colourations to the sound. There is less difference in bass but still KRK has the advantage of being slightly tighter and more focused there. Top end feels similar to me but KRK hast its top end better integrated with the midrange IMO. Overall KRK to me is much better speaker, more natural and detailed and also balanced much more evenly across the frequency range. What do You think? Which one would You choose for Your desktop system? Let me know in the comments below! Cheers!
