JUNI 2015 An surreale und phantasmagorische Konstellationen und Objekte erinnern die naturwissenschaftlich anmutenden Versuchsanordnungen der Berliner Künstlerin Alicja Kwade. Es ist nicht auszuschließen, dass die in Polen geborene Künstlerin die Assoziation an ihre literarische Namensverwandte ironisch einsetzt, um in Wahrheit die komplexe, philosophische Poesie des Mathematikers Lewis Carrol mit ihrem Werk zu verbinden. Zahlreiche künstlerische Arbeiten von Kwade behandeln das Motiv des Doppelgängers. Wer sich auf ihr Werk einlässt, wird es nicht alleine rational erklären können. Die Faszination steckt in der geschickten Überlagerung und bisweilen Widersprüchlichkeit von naturwissenschaftlichen und gesellschaftlichen Realitäten. Was allgemein als gesetzmäßig gilt, wird infrage gestellt und widerlegt. In ihrer neuesten Installation für die Rotunde der SCHIRN befasst sich die Künstlerin mit der tatsächlichen Bewegung der Zeit, die eine unmittelbare Wirkung auf den Raum und auf die Besucher ausüben wird. WWW.SCHIRN.DE ++++++ ALICJA KWADE 26 MARCH – 14 JUNE 2015 The quasi-scientific test arrangements by the Berlin-based artist Alicja Kwade are reminiscent of surreal and phantasmagorical constellations and objects. It cannot be ruled out that the artist, born in Poland, uses the association with her literary namesake ironically for the purpose of connecting the complex, philosophical poetry of the mathematician Lewis Carroll with her oeuvre. Many of Kwade’s artistic works deal with the motif of the doppelganger. Those who become involved with her work will not be able to explain it on their own. Its fascination lies in the skillful overlaying and occasional inconsistency of scientific and social realities. What is generally regarded as following a set pattern is called into question and refuted. In her most recent installation for the SCHIRN Rotunda, the artist deals with the actual movement of time which will have a direct impact on the space and on visitors alike.
