Conventional stair We build a lot of alternating stairs but occasionally someone wants a ships ladder. It's not quite as comfortable to climb since the treads aren't normally as wide but its a great option for someone who want the look of a ships ladder. The ladder in this picture has a graspable handrail integrated into the right and left stringers. Now I'll walk up and down these to illustrate. As you can see, my size 11 shoes are quite a bit longer than the width of the treads on the ships ladder. On the other hand, the alternating tread device has ample room for my foot. Some of you will prefer a ships ladder, others an alternating stair and still others will prefer to stick with a conventional stair. Let us know if we can build one of these three for you.
