Exercise for the psoas major muscle

The psoas major is perhaps one of the most infamous muscles ever. It is claimed to be 'overactive and tight', causing all kinds of pain syndromes in the back, hips and so on. In reality, the psoas major is almost always weak. Studies show that the psoas major is atrophied in low back pain sufferers. Furthermore, because the psoas extends the spine and E.R + flexes the hip joints, it is often stretched posturally as most patients are standing in swayback posture. Through the psoas major emerges the lumbar plexus nervous network, and when the psoas becomes sufficiently weak, it may entrap these nerves, causing all kinds of painful symptoms in the abdomen, anterior and posterior pelvis, leg, genital, and so on. Strengthening the psoas major, when done properly, especially along with necessary postural correctives, may relieve hip impingement, all kinds of neuralgic symptoms relating to the lumbar plexus, back pain, and more.
