MAAYAA - Riverside Villas and Resort Completed - December 2022 Location - Anaikkatti Video - Abhimanyu KV Maayaa is a humble attempt to capture the essence of Bali with the design strongly leaning towards tropical modernism. Located in Anakkatti, the site in itself is a thing of beauty with the Siruvani River and Bhavani River abutting two sides of the property and joining together at one corner of the site. The identified spot for the resort was a cliff which overlooked the river and our founding thought process was to maximize the vista from that point and thereby ensuring the essence of the space was not only preserved but amplified. The major construction was to happen below the approach level and you had to climb down from the entry level to reach these spaces. The roof slab of these levels below were manipulated into accommodating very shallow but vast water body which accentuated the entrance space as the main entry passage took you through the water body and into the restaurant area overlooking the river and the mountains that lie beyond. The floors below accommodated the banquet halls, conference rooms and other office spaces and the lower most level houses an infinity pool which blends in with the landscape around. The key here was to make sure the landscape blended in with the building or in other words they should act in unison and one shouldn’t be able to say where one ended and the other began. The resort blocks are of two types with standard rooms with river view balconies and independent cottages with plunge pools overlooking the river + the view behind. These were kept along the sites natural contours but connected with passages/bridges at different levels connecting it to the club house and common amenities. The material palette as well as the design language is strongly influenced by Balinese architecture since the idea was to create a tropical paradise .
