Sunset over the City of Angels - gyroplane taking a slow flight over the vast metropolitan area...

Hello everyone and thank you for joining us on an evening flight over the city of angels. As we fly over Dodger Stadium, we can clearly see some kind of a festival taking place in the parking lot. A huge crowd is gathering around at least three separate stages. Even from a thousand feet in the air this looks like a lot of fun. This time of the day, when the December sun reaches the Western horizon, is one of the best times to be in the air. The sky is painted with warm colors, and the winds die down to zero. Among the local aerial photographers, this is known as the “Golden Hour”. Today it’s a bit hazy, but don’t think for even a second that spoils the joy of taking an open cockpit gyro ride. Continuing on our journey, we are going to circle Downtown LA clockwise, coming from the north. Among the many iconic buildings here, the most easily recognizable one is the pointy tower of City Hall. You all have seen movies featuring this silhouette somewhere on the background. Highlighted by the magnificent sunset, the twinkling lights of the tall buildings look magical. Somewhere in the distance is the Los Angeles International Airport, and we can see the airliners zooming over our heads before making a wide U-turn for a landing. It is inevitable to recognize the vastness of the urban sprawl, and the real size of the Metro area. It is also fascinating to acknowledge that our trip through the air covers such a large area, that it would take us ½ a day to visit if driving on city streets. South of Downtown is located the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum – a stadium built for the 1932 Olympic games. It also hosted the 1984 Olympics... and will host the opening ceremony of the 2028 Olympics as well. A new soccer stadium was added recently to this ever growing complex of civic and sport venues. The campus of the University of Southern California is easy to spot from the air a block north of the Coliseum. The sky gets darker with every passing minute, and the lights on the ground appear brighter and brighter. There is something mystical about the flashing billboards, and the meandering freeways lit by the lights of the cars stuck in traffic jams. As we head toward the West, we leave the skyscrapers behind. The sky over the Pacific Ocean is still painted fire red by the setting sun, and below us, people are rushing to get home to settle down for the evening with their families. To our 3 o’clock is Hollywood, and right in front of us is the Miracle Mile along Wilshire Boulevard – the La Brea Tar Pits and multiple museums are all concentrated in this area. It truly is a pleasure to take to the sky over Los Angeles on a beautiful winter evening, so if you are ever in the area let’s schedule an introductory gyroplane lesson, so you can see for yourselves how this really feels.
