IPS Ready DMG Game Boy Shell from Funnyplaying

Funnyplaying has been on a roll lately with their new Game Boy shells. First was the Game Boy Advance with tabs molded in to perfectly center their own IPS kit (and the competitions with slight modification). Next up is their new shell for the original Game Boy (DMG), also molded to fit the new IPS kits from both funnyplaying and the competition. Some quick clarifications from the video -- I may have mentioned that the shell comes with either a lens (or is supposed to) or buttons but that is not true. The shell does not include a lens by design since it's intended to be used with an IPS kit which DOES come with a lens. The shell does not include buttons, however. You can reuse your original ones or pick up some aftermarket ones either from funnyplaying as well (highly recommended) or other generic aftermarket buttons. The parts shown in this video were all provided to me by retrogamerepairshop. Shell: https://retrogamerepairshop.com/colle... Backlight Kit: https://retrogamerepairshop.com/colle... Centering Bracket: https://retrogamerepairshop.com/colle... DMG Buttons: https://retrogamerepairshop.com/colle... Do I recommend this shell? Absolutely! Is it better than the other DMG shells out there? Well, that depends. If you're doing a stock Game Boy (or just backlighting the stock LCD), then I actually really like the "Factory A" shells that I did a video on a while back:    • Game Boy "Factory A" Aftermarket Housing   If you just care most about looks over the rest of the console, Retromodding has some amazing looking shells. They are a bit pricier, especially if you get them pre-trimmed but they are by far the best looking options out there right now:    • Retromodding DMG Holiday Build [Stream]   But if you just want a stock style (despite that the colors are different compared to stock) IPS modded GB that doesn't leave any of the "feel" to be desired, then yes, these are absolutely the way to go. These shells have a really good feel to them. No strange flexing in places where there shouldn't be flex, no parts that are misaligned, no messed up text, and so on. The single only downside, I'd say, is that the shells don't really work so well for stock LCDs due to the removed material for IPS mods. Yes, they are that good. The buttons play a big part in that and these buttons are by far the highest quality DMG buttons I've found yet, regardless of what shell you use them in. Other buttons don't always fit properly and have different tolerances. These feel exactly like they should. Only downside here is the lack of color options though. I really would have liked a dark gray option, similar to the PIL DMG buttons. Maybe FP will offer more colors in the future. Confused/intimidated by the sheer number of backlight kits now? I don’t blame you. I had to create an image based guide just to keep everything straight myself. There’s a new section of the wiki that has a more subjective look at all the different kits: https://gameboy.github.io/wiki/backli... The links provided are NOT affiliate links.
