Thepla Recipe | Chef Nupur M Varma

Welcome to The Wooden Spoon by Nupur!🤗 Today, we're featuring a classic Gujarati flatbread - Thepla.😋 This delicious dish is made with fresh fenugreek leaves and a blend of aromatic spices. Follow along as we guide you through each step to create this versatile and flavorful Gujarati delicacy.😌 Ingredients: - 1 bunch fresh methi, finely chopped - ½ tsp turmeric powder (haldi) - ½ tsp chili powder - ½ tsp cumin powder (jeera) - ¼ tsp carom seeds (ajwain) - 2 tbsp sesame seeds (til) - A pinch of Vaidehi Hing - ½ cup curd - ½ tsp salt (adjust to taste) - 2 cups wheat flour - Water (as needed for dough) - Oil (for roasting) Method: 1. Prepare the Dough: - In a mixing bowl, combine finely chopped methi leaves, turmeric powder, chili powder, cumin powder, carom seeds, sesame seeds, asafoetida, curd, and salt. - Mix well, then add wheat flour. - Gradually add water and knead into a soft, smooth dough. Let it rest for 15-20 minutes. 2. Roll the Theplas: - Divide the dough into small, equal-sized balls. - Roll each ball into a thin, round flatbread using a rolling pin, dusting with a little flour to prevent sticking. 3. Cook the Theplas: - Heat a tawa (griddle) over medium heat. - Place a rolled thepla on the hot tawa and cook until small bubbles form on the surface. - Flip the thepla and cook the other side until golden brown spots appear. - Apply a little oil on both sides and cook until crispy and golden. - Repeat with the remaining dough balls. 4. Serve: - Serve the theplas hot with yogurt, pickle, or your favorite chutney. Enjoy the flavors of Gujarat in every bite! Enjoy making and savoring this traditional Gujarati Thepla, perfect for any meal or as a snack on the go! 🌿
