The young woman heroically resists and Werther shoots himself. Charlotte finds him dying, and declares her love. No. 2 - Scène de la déclaration : ‘Il faut nous séparer’ Charlotte and Werther return from the ball; at the gate of her house, she tells him that here they must part. Even though he has only just met her, Werther loves Charlotte, and believes that she is his soulmate. She is the most beautiful and the best of women, as her children know.
