Chateau Latour 2008 Pauillac Trophy Wine Review

Chateau Latour is names after Saint-Lambert tower, that was created in the second half of the 14th century. At the end of the 17th century, Chateau Latour became the property of the de Segur family. The winery remained in the de Segur family for almost 300 years until in 1963, the heirs of the Marquis de Segur sold most of their remaining shares in Chateau Latour to the British companies: Harveys of Bristol and Hallminster Limited. The new owners replaced the old wooden vats with new stainless steel ones. In 1989, Allied Lyons bought all the shares of Chateau Latour and then in turn sold it to Francois Pinault in 1993. In 1995, Frederic Engerer was manager of the property. In 1998, the chateau renovated their cellars and vat rooms, In 2012, Chateau Latour announced they would no longer be selling futures of Chateau Latour and would only release vintages when they were considered they were ready to drink. The vineyard is 92-hectares of which 78 hectares is planted with vines, comprised of 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24 Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and a tiny bit of Petit Verdot. In 2019, the entire vineyard of Chateau Latour was certified as being 100% organic. On average, between 10,000 and 12,000 cases of Chateau Latour is produced each year and for the 2008 vintage, 40% of the harvest was used in the Grand Vin. The blend for the 2008 vintage was 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, and 1% Cabernet Franc.
