This is our own interpretation of the compelling Melissa Etheridge ballad, This War Is Over, as part of my seasonal appeal in support of Dementia UK. As many people know, my mother, Brenda, was diagnosed with dementia in 2020 and sadly passed away on 21 January 2024. Helping with her care has beeen a major part of my life for the last four years and watching her slip away was agonising. I have held two previous successful appeals for Dementia UK and hope that the release of this single will persuade people to support the charity as part of their giving at this time of year. Their specialist nurses, known as Admiral Nurses, provide free, expert advice, support and understanding to help families care for their loved one. I have always been a huge fan of Melissa Etheridge, and this song, with its focus on overcoming difficulties, has particular resonance to me because of its themes of personal liberation, resilience and finding hope through adversity.
