War Gods (PS1) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

A playthrough of Midway's 1997 3D versus-fighter for the Sony PlayStation, War Gods. Played through as Pagan on the default difficulty level. War Gods, released on PS1 and N64, is a pretty good, though pretty bare-bones conversion of the original coin-op. It doesn't add much of anything, but it's certainly a faithful rendition of the 1995 arcade title. The graphics are surprisingly good on this for a relatively early 3D fighter on the PlayStation. Apparently the level of detail apparent in the character models is a result of mapping photos onto the polygons like a skin. It really does provide for some impressive, not to mention super creepy, facial details that you don't often see in console games of its era. The gameplay is exactly what you'd expect of a mid-90s 3D fighter: there's a sidestep button, the MK3 dial-a-combo system, a load of special moves, and some fatalities. So, it's basically Mortal Kombat 4 before Mortal Kombat 4 happened, but is important to note that though this is a Midway title, the WarGods and Mortal Kombat development teams didn't share any members. They games are similar in many ways (probably because they were using similar Midway hardware), but they do "feel" different. If that makes any sense. Overall I really like War Gods. It's a solid mid-90s 3D fighter, and as long as you go into it expecting just that, it won't disappoint. And man, Pagan really is a picture of modesty in those win poses, isn't she? ;) ___ No cheats were used during the recording of this video.
