From the perspective of Lead Trumpet and Flugelhorn soloist Alex Gifford, a member of the 2023 Drum Corps International World Champion Blue Devils. Based out of Concord, CA, the Blue Devils claimed their 21st championship title with their competitive show, "The Cut-Outs", a celebration of the artist Henri Matisse's later years. The corps posted its third consecutive championship and ninth undefeated season, winning caption awards for best color guard, visual performance, and general effect. This footage is from our "victory" encore run on Saturday night after our finals performance and score announcements. I never would have imagined that I would have been able to even make the Blue Devils, let alone win two world championships during my tenure as a performer.
