Santosh Puri Ashram adjoins the Raja National Park and the Ganga, it is 7 km from Haridwar, 18 Km from Rishikesh. Starting from a raw piece of land Baba Santosh Puri gradually built up an ashram that contains various buildings for housing people, dogs and cows. The grounds now are a sweet blend of rambling woods and flowers. Guest numbers are limited to 20 or so as this is a smaller family compound, adding to the feeling of intimacy. Around 15 people live here more or less permanently and all contribute to the farming and the running of the ashram. The farm has about 10 cows and some land for growing vegetables and pulses. The ashram is developing into an attractive place, not too luxurious, not too simple, with several rooms, a temple, a homa fire stall (homa is a Sanskrit word that refers to a ritual, wherein an oblation or any religious offering is made into fire), a meditation hall, and a cowshed. With very little Ego around, but plenty of love, natural beauty and purity, this is a spiritual and academic place of retreat for learning and practising the ancient and modern yogic teachings for the fulfilment in life through self-realisation.
