The 2004 USC team that became just the second team to start and finish the season as the No. 1 team in the AP Poll and dominated teams by an average margin of 25.2 points per game in route to a BCS Championship. Or there was the 2009 Alabama team that jumpstarted Nick Saban’s reign of terror in Tuscaloosa and obliterated a powerhouse Florida team in the SEC title game. That year’s Heisman winner Mark Ingram and what would finish as the No. 2 defense in the country led Saban’s juggernaut to an undefeated season and captured Saban’s first title at Alabama. Some like to look longingly through their rose tinted glasses at some relics of the past – like the 1945 Army team or one of the Notre Dame powerhouse teams of yester-year. Of course there is a handful of other teams that often get thrown into this mix – the 2005 Texas Longhorns, 2013 Florida State Seminoles and so on and so forth… But without ANY hyperbole… There is no question that the greatest college football team EVER assembled is the 2001 Miami Hurricanes.
