Quick video to show the symptoms I had when my e39 540i Auto got the trans failsafe prog error. Car wouldn't' go into gear and sometimes wouldn't even start. I scanned the transmission using INPA to find the error (60 gear switch) which is also known as the position or neutral switch. The issue never occurred for whilst driving. It would occur intermittently from the first start of the day and usually turning the engine off and starting it again would clear the issue.
