It's a tricky topic and I was overthinking a lot on this, haha. Anyway, since many people have asked and were wondering, I think it would be helpful in explaining why Lunguage uses the system it does, and to visualize the differences between systems. But please feel free to leave any questions below!! Would be happy to try to explain more. Cantonese transcription system is not standardized as, for example, Mandarin. There are as many as 11 systems, and none of them are taught in local schools normally, so not even locals know how to "properly spell" Cantonese. As a result you'd see many different ways of "spelling", some of them match with the systems and some made up by locals according to their own regional accent or preferences. That could be very confusing for foreign learners. In fact there really isn't a "proper way" to "spell" Cantonese, as these transcription systems are developed to help foreigners learn the language, so different people have come up with different versions of what they think works best to resemble the sound of the characters. After all, Chinese is not like English, you don't learn to "spell" words, but try to recognize the characters and know the sound of it. So our take on this is: pick whatever makes the most sense and works best for you, as long as it helps you learn the sound of it, that's what matters the most, right? :) P.S.
