APOEL Nicosia Ultras - Best Moments

APOEL is the most supported and successful club in Cyprus, it is based in the capital city Nicosia, and is known for having an extremely passionate, loud and enthusiastic fan base. APOEL plays at the GSP stadium, which has the capacity for almost 23000 people. They share this stadium with their city rivals, Omonoia Nicosia. Since APOEL is the most supported club in Cyrus, they regularly have the best average attendances in the country. APOEL fans are also known for going to some European away matches with impressive numbers (especially considering that Cyprus is a pretty small country, having only a little bit more of 1 million habitants), like their away trips to London to play against Chelsea in 2009 (they brought around 6000 fans), to Lyon in 2012 (they brought around 5000 fans) or to Madrid to play against Real also in 2012 (they brought around 4000 fans), among many others. APOEL Ultras 79 is the name of the club´s Ultras group. Inside the APOEL Ultras there are some subgroups with a more street orientated and Casual style, like City Boys Group and Casual Firm 79. APOEL fanatical supporters all stay in the same stand behind the goal at their home ground. The Ultras and Hooligans of APOEL are known for their incredible pyro shows, loud support, good looking choreos and for some riots against rival groups or the police. They are also recognized for their right-wing political views and for having Greek roots and supporting the Greek influence in Cyprus. It is very common to see Greek flags at APOEL matches and the Ultras also often display many messages regarding this issue. As a curiosity, Cyprus is divided for many years in two different parts: the south of the country is Greek and the North is Turkish. Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus, is also divided in two different areas, a Greek one and a Turkish one. APOEL biggest rivalry is towards Omonoia Nicosia, whom they play the “Derby of Nicosia”. There is a lot of hatred and animosity between both seths of fans (as it is usual in a Derby), but this one has an extra reason for it, since as we mentioned, APOEL Ultras have right-wing political views and Omonoia Ultras have left-wing and anti-fascist ideologies. Apart from this Derby, APOEL also has a rivalry with AEL Limassol and with Apollon Limassol.
