In this episode I provide the history of the Chrysler New Yorker, the longest-running nameplate ever for Chrysler, starting in 1939 and ending in 1996. Over 14 generations, it evolved into the Chrysler brand's flagship after the luxury Imperial brand was spun off in 1955. But in the late 70's, Chrysler started losing sales as it tried to maintain the large luxury car size despite the gas crisis, which eventually led the New Yorker to become a K-car relative with a 4-cylinder engine, losing most of the prestige it once had. Having the car talk to warn the driver of problems would soon be loathed by owners and became a punchline after just a few years. The last New Yorkers were part of the LH cab-forward line in 1994, but poor sales led to the New Yorker being dropped with no fanfare in 1996.
