Saint-Cloud town and the Palace before the destruction in 1870-71 France 1855-1870 "The Château de Saint-Cloud was a palace in France, built on a site overlooking the Seine at Saint-Cloud in Hauts-de-Seine, about 5 km west of Paris. It was expanded by Philippe of France, Duke of Orléans in the 17th century and finally enlarged by Marie Antoinette in the 1780s. The palace was the scene of some of the significant moments in French 19th century history, most notably in Napoleonic history, where Bonaparte seized power there in his coup d'etat of Brumaire, and the Empire was proclaimed. The building was destroyed and burned down during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870, having been used by Emperor Napoléon III. Since December 2006, there has been a movement to rebuild the Château de Saint-Cloud. On the site of the former palace is the state-owned Parc Saint-Cloud town and the Palace after the destruction in 1870-71 France 1871-1890 "Saint-Cloud is a commune in the western suburbs of Paris, France, located on the left bank of the Seine River. It is one of France's wealthiest towns, with the second-highest average household income of communities with 10,000 to 50,000 households. The town is separated from Paris by Longchamps racecourse and the Bois de Boulogne, and the southern part by the suburb of Boulogne. The Parc de Saint-Cloud, with its famous artificial cascade, and the outbuildings of the former royal château of Saint-Cloud destroyed in 1870 during the Franco-German War are located on the site of the former palace.Saint Cloud was born in 522 A.D. and was the grandson of Clovis, founder of the Kingdom of the Franks, and his wife Saint Clothilde."
