Telemedicine is the new doctor’s house call | Sofija Volertas | TEDxGreensboro

The use of technology is transforming and expanding the capabilities of medical personnel. Three factors combine to support the effectiveness of telemedicine -- improved technology; freeing a physician to listen; and, enabling "home" visits remotely. The use of telemedicine requires less overall time from the patient, reduces time away from work, and enhances the personal human connection between physican and patient. Dr. Sofija Volertas is an allergist and immunologist with training in internal medicine and pediatrics. As an assistant professor of medicine at UNC-Chapel Hill, she sees patients and teaches future medical practitioners. Her recent work focuses on improving current and future doctors’ ability to connect with patientsusing telemedicine.
