This week I am broaching a topic that so many of you have asked to see featured on my channel: How to Become an Interior Designer. Though there are many routes to take when it comes to becoming an interior designer, in this video I list a couple of key ways to aid your journey and to advance your interior design career. One route to go is getting your Bachelors’ Degree in Interior Design at specific schools like RISD or Parsons, but you can also get your Bachelors’ in any major relating to the arts, like me! Furthermore, I would urge you to consider going to business school and doing additional research on interior design in any way that you can. Make sure you are always collecting photos that inspire you and taking note of those that help you pick your defining style for interior design! Another helpful thing you can do is market yourself and your services online––this helps to show clients not only your style but also the work that you’ve done. Some interior designers also like to get their NICD Certification––taking this exam is not imperative to your interior design career, but it may help you get access to exclusive locations to source items for your projects. First and foremost when starting an interior design career without an academic background in this particular field, I always advise people to learn SketchUp and CAD, and to offer their services pro-bono! This way you get experience, and you are able to work on another key element of your career: building a portfolio. After you’ve put in the work, it’s time to decide on your rate and how much to charge clients. After that, you must stay organized, and just be confident! There is always a market for your style and eye, so trust yourself and your interior design abilities! Thanks so much for tuning in, I will see you all next week with a brand new video! __________________________________________________ About Nina Nina Takesh was Founder, CEO and creative force behind the Luxury Brand Petit Tresor.
