Stowe - Gondola

The Mansfield Gondola is an eight-person detachable gondola located at Stowe Mountain Resort. The gondola runs from the Mansfield Base Area to the top of Mount Mansfield Gondola Area of the resort, which is also the highest point at the resort. From the top of the Gondola, skiers and riders can access all of the trails located at the Gondola Area of the resort, which is mostly intermediate groomers, such as Perry Merrill and Gondolier, but also some ungroomed advanced trails, such as Waterfall. The lift was installed in 1991 by Poma, replacing an old 1968 four-person gondola manufactured by PHB Hall. In the summer, guests can ride the gondola to eat at the summit restaurant, take the zipline, or just to enjoy the view! Stowe Mountain Resort is a large ski area located in Stowe, Vermont. The mountain is located in the northern half of the state, not far east from the city of Burlington, and northeast of the state's capital, Montpelier. Stowe is one of the largest ski areas in the East, boasting a 2,360 ft vertical drop and 116 trails! It is known for its large terrain variety ranging from some of the hardest trails in the East, the Front Four (National, Goat, Liftline, and Starr), to easy winding beginner trails, such as the 4.3 mile Toll Road trail, the ski area's longest trail. The resort is located on two sides of Vermont Route 108 with a gondola (the Over Easy Gondola) that runs over the road that connects the two sides. The side of the resort west of Route 108 is the Mount Mansfield Area. Mount Mansfield is the tallest mountain in Vermont (though the ski area does not reach the summit) and is where a majority of the skiing at Stowe is located. The ski area is broken up into two parts on Mount Mansfield, the FourRunner Area, which is home to multiple chairlifts and a wide variety of trails, including the Front Four and Toll Road, and the Gondola Area, which is served by the Mansfield Gondola, and is home to mostly intermediate groomers (such as Perry Merrill and Gondolier). On the other side of Route 108 is the Spruce Peak Area. Spruce Peak is home to most of the ski area's more family-friendly terrain, serviced by the Sunny Spruce Quad, amongst others, though it does have a few difficult trails off of the Sensation Quad. Spruce Peak is also home to many of Stowe's racing events. The ski area's village with shops and restaurants, and their hotel (The Lodge at Spruce Peak) are also located on the Spruce Peak side of the resort. Stowe is one of the more popular ski areas in Vermont. The mountain was purchased by Vail Resorts in 2017, and therefore, the resort is a destination on the Epic Pass.
