Radioiodine therapy is a nuclear medicine treatment for treating hyperthyroidism and thyroid cancer. Before the treatment starts, you must inform the doctor if you have any medical conditions like allergies, asthma or pregnancy, based on which you will be given the medication. The radioiodine is administered orally, and based on the dosage, you may need to stay in the isolation room for 1-2 days. You will be monitored closely during this time, and for the first 8 hours, you must drink eight glasses of water each hour and avoid iodine uptake. Once your radiation levels are within the acceptable range, a scan will be done.
