How to Create a “Ruled” Grid (Lines / Grid Borders) in CSS the Right Way

Adding a border between columns and rows in a CSS grid layout is a typical design pattern. While it’s easy to achieve in a design tool like Figma, it comes with a lot of challenges in a development environment. Sure, there are a lot of manual, non-scalable ways to achieve this look. In fact, every time I’ve seen it done, the approach was very messy, inflexible, and hard to manage. So, in this video, I’m going to teach my approach to solving the challenge of internal borders between rows and columns in a grid layout the right way. I'm saying it's "the right way" for two reasons: 1. It's completely scalable, maintainable, flexible, efficient, and elegant. 2. Saying "the right way" in a video or blog post absolutely drives all my "best practices" haters up a wall ... and that's super fun. But, no joke, it's a really good solution. For example: It doesn't just media queries. It doesn't require :nth() selectors. It works automatically with any column or row count. It works with an uneven number of grid items. It supports background gradients, partners, and images. In other words, it's pretty perfect. Watch to learn how it's done.
