Tacloban is a coastal highly urbanized city in the Eastern Visayas region. Although administratively independent due to its distinction as highly urbanized city, Tacloban is commonly grouped with the province of Leyte. The highly urbanized city also serves as the provincial capital as well as the regional center of Eastern Visayas. The city has a land area of 201.72 square kilometers or 77.88 square miles. Its population as determined by the 2020 Census was 251,881. This represented 5.54% of the total population of the Eastern Visayas region.
