TOP-10 BEST IN NATIONAL COSTUME Binibining Pilipinas 2022 Binibining Pilipinas is a national beauty pageant in the Philippines that selects Filipina representatives to compete in one of the Big Four international beauty pageants. The 2022 Binibining Pilipinas candidates presented their respective national costume creations before a jam-packed crowd at the New Frontier Theater last weekend. The visually-stunning creations essayed inspirations from Philippine folklore, myth, religious figures, fiestas and festivals, as well as daily life. My TOP 10 Favorite Costumes 10. Bb. 39 Jasmine Omay - Tarlac Province. This Filipiniana was inspired by the Tarlaquenas, Maria Clara de los Sanos. This is a modern approach into showing femininity, freedom, wisdom and courage. Designer: Xai Macapagal 9. Binibini 1 Stacey Daniella Gabriel - Cainta, Rizal. Featuring a piña silk pechera barong, Ifugao weave skort and belt bag, and arnibal-soaked Jusi train. Adding whimsical delight are the good morning towel, sago-embellished gladiator heels, panukli between her knuckles, and even a piso in her ear. Stacey tips her umbrella hat to our valiant taho warriors for working tirelessly to bring warmth to our bellies. Designer: Erjohn dela Serna 8. Binibini 5 Karen Laurrie Mendoza – Iloilo City Her bayanihan and binukot costume is inspired by her advocacy on mental health. Binibini 17 Chelsea Fernandez - Tacloban City Embellished with authentic materials produced in Eastern Visayas, her costume is a representation of Tacloban City. Symbolizing Taclobanons journey towards sustainable socio-economic development as represented by the lighted San Juanico Bridge, The Bridge of Love. Designer: Nick Guarino of FESTIVALI 6. Bb. 28 Gabrielle Camille Basiano - Borongan City, Eastern Samar Revered for her humility and motherly love, the Virgin Mary is the ultimate symbol of a WOMAN! An homage to Padul-Ong Festival, a mythical presentation that unfolds the story on how the image of the Virgin Mary was mysteriously transported from Portugal to Borongan, Eastern Samar, celebrated every September 8 of the year. Designer: Ken Batino and Jevin Salaysay 5. Bb. 30 Jashmin-Lyn Dimaculangan - Albay This costume represents the Albay tourism logo brought to life through a mythical ibong Adarna filled with colors, power and pride. As colorful as the rainbow are the native people of Albay. “I walk in this masterpiece with confidence, and encourage everyone to, indulge yourself in warm albay." Designer: Er Stephen Alvarado 4. Binibini 26 Cyrille Payumo - Porac, Pampanga "NUNU MAGANTSI" This entire ensemble attempts to capture the extensive heritage of this pioneer settlers. It is an inspiration from the indigenous people specifically the group of Aeta Magantsi in Porac, Pampanga. It represents their culture and tradition. They also committed their time and skills in painstakingly putting every piece of this wearable work of art. Designer: Rich Sabinian 3. Bb. 35 Diana Mackey - Nueva Ecija "MANGGAGAPAS " (REAPER) Derived from the Rice Granary of the Philippines, Nueva Ecija is dressed in a Manggapas-inspired costume to commemorate the abundance of its rice crop production since the twentieth century. It represents the harvest and hard work of our forefathers mowing abundantly. Accentuated with the Filipino carabao that represents Filipino resilience and diligence. Designer: Malayka Yamas 2. Binibini 8 Nicole Budol - Angono, Rizal Angono, Rizal known as the “Art Capital of the Philippines” and home of the 'HIGANTES Festival' - in celebration of the Feast of St. Clement. It is also believed that the Higantes Festival is regarded as a myth wherein there were giants who once walked over the land of Angono. The costume represents the image of Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray as she once featured the province and the festivity during her competition. The painting also symbolizes the province of Angono, carefully and intricately hand-crafted by one of Angono's best artists. Designer: Patrick Isorena Painting: Herbert Ebok Pinpiño 1. Bb. 7 Graciella Sheine Lehmann - Oriental Mindoro This Tikbalang national costume is fashioned with intertwined branches of the Balete tree that forms the horse head and butterfly sleeves, and hugs the body down to its hooves to conceal the creature's looming presence. Sheets of translucent, ghostly-white fabric are decoratively draped as its beguiling mane and tail. Designer: Paolo Ballesteros Binibining Pilipinas 2022 will be the 58th edition of Binibining Pilipinas.
