The Black Seminoles, known as Los Negros Mascogos in Mexico, settled in Nacimiento de Los Negros, Mexico, in 1849. Descended from African American slaves who escaped to Florida before making their way further south, the community celebrates Juneteenth every year but have always known the day as El Baile de Los Negros or El Día de Los Negros.
