Buying solar panels is not the future — here’s why | Anish Beeram | TEDxYouth@SanAntonio

Often, when individuals conceptualize clean energy, they imagine costly solar panels being installed on their rooftops, alongside the immense investment into maintenance, storage, and upkeep. Put simply, conventional solar energy is seen as inaccessible, unaffordable, and unrealistic for most people. But solar energy is an approachable innovation. Instead of producing and storing solar energy at one’s homes, individuals can invest into local solar energy production companies, like Big Sun Solar for instance. At its most basic, you can buy a solar energy package with these solar production companies, where they subsidize any percentage of your annual energy usage with solar energy. The companies then supply clean energy to the CPS energy grid, so a larger proportion of the energy that you use is produced cleanly instead of by burning carbon. Put simply, this technology is an affordable and accessible way for everyday people to transition to clean energy usage, challenging the conventional notion of what clean energy investments look like. If adopted at scale, clean energy could provide for more of the people’s energy usage, decreasing reliance on carbon-produced energy on a local, state, and national level.
