This mod utilized the discovery made by the Group “Lost Nintendo History”. That discovery uncovered a secret feature in the DS hardware which, when enabled, allows you to output composite video to an external monitor. Lost Nintendo History made a specialized Prototype PCB to exploit this feature of the DS, but it was large and resided outside the console, which was fine as a proof of concept The company Rhotronix iterated and improved on the Lost Nintendo History design to make the PCB more compact as well as utilize the headphone jack as the conduit for video output.
