12 Darkest And Mature Justice League Moments - Explored - One Of Best Superhero Animated Show

Almost 90 years ago, DC had branded itself with stories that were often camp and more light-hearted, since it was targeted towards a young audience. Thirty years later, in the 1960s, they began to reach out and rebrand themselves to capture a more mature audience. But in the 1970s, creators Neal Adams and Denny O’Neil took the pen and began to tread around more mature themes such as drugs, racism, and poverty. One of the primary characters to have been revamped was Batman, who went from being the smiling detective to the icon Dark Knight. In the 1980s, Frank Miller joined the battalion of writers who wanted to deal with more intense issues, as he wanted to write stories that would’ve scared him as a child. He expanded upon the intensity of Batman and created The Dark Knight Returns. Alan Moore’s Watchmen also experimented with more complexity and darkness. Around the 80s and 90s, the DC Animated Universe gained immense popularity with cartoon adaptations of its comic book stories. Meant to be for a young audience, it was light-hearted with comic elements. 1992’s Batman: The Animated Series kickstarted a chain of exciting shows for the DCAU and it was followed by Superman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, Justice League, and Justice League Unlimited. By this time, DC had established several storylines with darker themes where we would see the characters, which were often the members of the Justice League, partake in killing. Some happened in alternate timelines while others happened in real time. One such cartoon was Justice League, where several such instances had taken place. The plans of the villains were also remarkably more sinister, which is exactly what we are going to explore in this video. There are moments where we see Hawkgirl killing an opponent, J’onn J’onzz pondering over the selfish intent of humanity, Terry McGinnis learning of Amanda Waller’s sinister plan to turn him into Batman and a lot more.
