Our journey starts at the central station, a hub of motion and steel, where trains glide in and out, carrying the lifeblood of commuters. We begin from the new area behind it, overlooking the IJ, where the water’s surface mirrors the early light. Here, modernity meets tradition, and the city’s pulse is palpable. From the station, we drift into the heart of downtown. Passing de Dam, the echoes of history resonate through the air, mingling with the footfalls of hurried pedestrians. Nieuwendijk and Kalverstraat unfold before us, commercial arteries where shopkeepers prepare for the day’s onslaught. We continue our wanderings along Herengracht, one of the city’s elegant canals. The water reflects the stately facades of centuries-old houses, silent witnesses to the passage of time. Nearby, we encounter the Multatuli statue, a tribute to the writer who dared to challenge the injustices of his era.
