101 Year Old Armenian Genocide Survivor Yevnige Salibian shares her story of survival, faith and hope amidst persecution, loss, and pain. She fled by night from the Genocide in Aintab, Turkey in 1921 at the age of 7 in a horse-drawn carriage, but not before she witnessed images that forever remain ingrained in her heart and mind. After escaping Aintab, she had yet to flee from war and persecution 3 more times, and to two more countries before finally finding safe refuge in the United States. Hear the story of how she remained joyful, faithful and full of life despite the suffering and tragedy she endured, including the loss of her mother when she was 13 and her son when he was 17. Aided by her humor, charm, spunk, vivid memories, and near-perfect English, this story of survival captivated a large group of students at the UCLA School of Law on April 22, 2015, the week of the 100th anniversary of the start of the Armenian Genocide. Sharing this story is necessary to aid in preserving the memory of the Genocide and the 1.5 million Armenians who were murdered, many as martyrs for their Christian faith, preferring to die than to recant.
